Khurda Road Division sets new record in freight traffic handling with 183 million tonnes

Bhubaneswar, Nov 3 (UNI) The Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has once again proved its mettle by emerging as the top-performing division in overall traffic handling, achieving a remarkable 183 million tonnes of freight up to October 2025.
The division handled 101 million tonnes of loading and 82 million tonnes of unloading, marking its best-ever performance and maintaining its leadership position in freight movement across Indian Railways.
Following Khurda Road in the rankings are Bilaspur Division with 148 million tonnes, Dhanbad with 132 million tonnes, and Chakradharpur with 127 million tonnes.
In a historic achievement, Khurda Road Division crossed the 100-million-tonne loading milestone in just 213 days (as on October 30, 2025) — its fastest ever, surpassing the previous record of 234 days set in 2024–25. This milestone sets a new benchmark in operational excellence and efficiency.
The division also recorded an all-time high monthly loading of 14.52 million tonnes in October 2025, the first time it crossed the 14-million-tonne mark for the month.
Despite challenges posed by Cyclone Montha and heavy rainfall, the division ensured uninterrupted freight operations. Several terminals achieved record-breaking performances, including:
Paradeep Port area: 938 rakes (Previous best: 927 rakes in March 2025) Tata Steel / Jakhapura: 160 rakes (Previous best: 156 rakes in July 2025) Dhamara Port: 585 rakes (Previous best: 504 rakes in October 2023) Jindal Steel / Sukinda: 48 rakes (Previous best: 41 rakes in October 2024)
According to ECoR, this remarkable performance reflects the dedicated efforts of operating and commercial teams, close coordination with stakeholders, and proactive leadership under the East Coast Railway administration.
Continuous monitoring, efficient rake management, and customer-oriented logistics support have together driven this record-breaking success.
